Maximizing Your Time With God – Part 2

In last week’s faith-based life tips we touched on how to get the most out of our scripture reading when we spend time alone with God.  I shared a simple acrostic called SPACE to help us maximize your time with God.  It’s an acrostic that has helped my in my own quiet times for many years.  Here’s the link in case you missed it.

This week we continue by giving you another acrostic that I have also used most of the time for the past several years.  It’s called SOAP.  Again, what I do is take a pen and a journal (even a blank piece of paper will work) and use the following acrostic to help me focus on the day’s passage and apply it to my life.  The acrostic goes like this:

S – Scripture:  (I just simply write down the scripture I am focusing on.)  If it’s a long passage, I just write the verse or verses I want to pinpoint.
O – Observation:  I write down the truth or teaching I observed through that passage.  Things that are unique to me and my situation.
A – Application:  I write down what I believe God wants me to apply to my life from what I just read.
P – I write out a prayer to God, asking Him to help me apply what He is teaching me or change what I need to change through the day’s scripture reading.

For me, what works best is to use some sort of #journal.  I have used several journaling methods over the years, including everything from small spiral notebooks to journals I have found at the Christian Bookstore or on Amazon.  I have kept my journals since I was 19 years old.  I’ve always said, “My journal is my journey”.   It’s cool to look back and see how God has answered prayer and grown me through seasons of life.  It’s definitely definitive proof that He has been at work in my life and has provided every need along the way!  The #journal that has worked best for me is called the Life Journal.  It lasts about 13 weeks and has pages for #journaling, prayer requests, etc.  You can check it out at

I hope this practical tip will help you in your faith journey!  I truly believe that if you begin to implement the SPACE acrostic or the SOAP acrostic, you will find that your time alone with God will become much more meaningful and productive!  Try it and see for yourself!

God Bless, and Soar On!
